Denver’s Energy Tech Community: Alive and Thriving

Whoever said energy and tech don’t mix (…guilty?) was mistaken.

Teren was invited to pitch at Digital WildCatter‘s Denver Energy Tech Night at Mile High Station on July 11th. The event invites energy startups to present and go head to head in a tech pitch showdown. I had the opportunity to present for team Teren, focusing on our exciting new product, Terevue, which is providing next-level environmental intelligence for the pipeline industry.  

After multiple runoffs in the final round, Teren placed 2nd up against some formidable tech startups. In the end, we had a great time in a fun, casual setting, received some great questions from the audience and met some really impressive companies in the energy tech space. 

After the event, I had 3 takeaways from Denver Energy Tech Night: 

1. The energy community is NOT innovation averse
Quite the opposite. Contrary to outdated stereotypes, the energy community is teeming with enthusiasm for novel ideas and cutting-edge tech. This is something Ascent‘s founding partner David Forsberg has been preaching for years. Ascent Energy Ventures, a fixture in the energy tech investing scene, was also in attendance; his portfolio company Earthview took home the top prize at last year’s event. David wasn’t alone – a broad spectrum of investors and industry participants excited about driving innovation in the industry were also in attendance.

2. The energy community wants to do better by tech
There’s a strong, shared desire within the energy community to leverage technology for better outcomes. Whether it’s improving efficiency, reducing environmental impact, or enhancing safety measures, the collective goal is to utilize technological advancements to drive positive change.

3. The energy community is a tight-knit, supportive family
Energy folk are professionals who not only share a common passion but also a commitment to helping each other succeed.

We appreciated the invite and really enjoyed networking with friends new and old working on the pipeline.
